Not everyone can say they\u2019ve drawn Spider-Man, the X-Men, Captain America, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, and Captain Marvel. Carmen Carnero<\/strong> can. What\u2019s even more remarkable is that it still feels like she\u2019s only getting started. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now recognized as one of the leading artists in American comics, the Spanish illustrator has spent more than a decade building a career that has taken her to some of the biggest titles at both Marvel and DC.<\/p>\n\n\n

After earning a Fine Arts degree and a PhD in Art Restoration, Carmen began her professional comics career in 2013 with a collaboration on X-Factor<\/em>. Soon after, she worked for Valiant, Dark Horse, and DC Comics, contributing to series such as Supergirl<\/em>, Detective Comics, Wonder Woman<\/em>, Green Arrow<\/em>, DC Bombshells<\/em>, and Astro City<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her return to Marvel in 2018 with X-Men Red<\/em> marked a turning point in her career. Just one year later, she became the lead artist on the relaunch of Captain Marvel<\/em>, alongside writer Kelly Thompson, on one of the publisher\u2019s most acclaimed series of that period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That work earned her a place in Marvel\u2019s prestigious Stormbreakers<\/strong> program, an initiative created to identify and promote the industry\u2019s most promising artists. It\u2019s an exclusive group and Marvel\u2019s way of saying, \u201cKeep an eye on this creator.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n

In recent years, fans have enjoyed her work on titles including Miles Morales: Spider-Man<\/em>, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty<\/em>, The Amazing Spider-Man, Exceptional X-Men<\/em>, and, most recently, Iron Man<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carnero often says she found her way into comics almost by accident, after working as a tattoo artist and dance teacher. Looking at her career today, it\u2019s hard to imagine a universe where superheroes managed to stay away from her pencils for very long. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
