Few actors can say they’ve left their mark on so many legendary franchises. From Middle-earth to Star Trek, from Dredd to Marvel and The Boys, Karl Urban has become one of the most recognizable faces in genre film and television.
Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Urban began his acting career in local television and film productions before making the leap to Hollywood in the early 2000s. His international breakthrough came with the role of Éomer, the fearless Marshal of Rohan, in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

From there, he went on to portray some of the most memorable characters in modern fantasy and science fiction. He played Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the Star Trek film trilogy, brought the iconic Judge Dredd to life in Dredd, and joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Skurge in Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.
In recent years, Urban has won over a new generation of fans with his performance as Billy Butcher in The Boys, one of Prime Video’s most successful series. His charismatic, ruthless, and darkly humorous portrayal has made the character one of the defining figures of modern television.

Most recently, Urban joined another iconic franchise by taking on the role of Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat II, further expanding a filmography that continues to span some of the biggest names in popular culture.
At San Diego Comic-Con Málaga 2026, you’ll have the opportunity to meet one of the most beloved actors in fantasy and science fiction, whose career has helped shape some of the most iconic franchises of the past two decades.
