Do I need an invitation letter to enter Spain?

If you come from a country that requires a visa to enter Spain, you may be asked for an Invitation Letter during the visa application process or at border control.

The Invitation Letter is an official document that can support your visa application by demonstrating a reason for travel and a place to stay during your visit.

This document must be requested by a resident in Spain (for example, a friend or family member) from the National Police, providing the details of the invited person and documentation proving their address.

Keep in mind that:

  • Not having an Invitation Letter does not automatically mean your visa will be denied, although it can facilitate the process if the consulate requests it.
  • A confirmed and paid hotel reservation can also serve as proof of accommodation during your stay.
