Toshihiro Kawamoto has helped define the look of some of the most recognizable anime of the past few decades. A character designer, animator, and animation director, his career is closely linked to titles that have become part of Japanese animation history, as well as to BONES, the studio he co-founded.

One of his first major projects was Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, where he worked as character designer and chief animation director. Over the following years, he continued to build his career across different productions before becoming involved with one of the works that would ultimately define his trajectory: Cowboy Bebop.

Kawamoto was responsible for the character designs of Cowboy Bebop, shaping Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine, Jet Black, and the rest of the series’ protagonists, whose visual identity has become one of the most recognizable in anime. He later continued his work on Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, released in 2001.

In 1998, he co-founded BONES alongside Masahiko Minami and Hiroshi Ōsaka. Since then, his career has remained closely connected to the studio, contributing to productions such as Wolf’s Rain, Noragami, and Blood Blockade Battlefront, while continuing to work as a designer, animator, and animation director.

His career also includes titles such as Golden Boy, completing more than three decades dedicated to creating characters and worlds that have accompanied different generations of anime fans.
