Laia López

There are artistic styles you can recognise instantly. Vibrant colours, expressive characters, and scenes that feel as though they have stepped straight out of a world suspended somewhere between fantasy and everyday magic. The artistic universe of Laia López has been captivating millions of people around the world for years.

Born in Barcelona and a Fine Arts graduate, Laia developed the distinctive visual style that would become her trademark largely through self-teaching. Shortly after completing her studies, she joined the Comic Up! studio, working as a pencil artist on projects for companies such as Disney and Mattel before beginning her career as a freelance illustrator.

Since then, she has collaborated with some of Spain’s leading publishers, including Random House, Norma Editorial, and Planeta, building a career that combines illustration, young adult literature, and the creation of original worlds and characters.

Her work has brought to life a number of beloved novels and series, including Sara y las goleadoras by Laura Gallego and the magical girl series Mystical, created alongside Marta Álvarez. Her ability to convey emotion through colour and composition has made her one of the most recognisable illustrators in Spain today.

Social media has also played an important role in her career. With more than one million followers on Instagram, her artwork has reached an international audience that continues to grow year after year, turning her illustrations into a source of inspiration for artists and fans around the world.

In 2018 she published Gleaming, her first art book, followed by deeply personal projects such as the illustrated novels Strawberry Moon and Blue Moon, the Royalty Witches trilogy, the art book IRIDESCENT, and Taylor Swift: A Swiftie Diary.

She is currently working on her first children’s graphic novel as both writer and artist, a project set to be published in the United States by Random House Graphic.

At San Diego Comic-Con Málaga 2026, you’ll have the opportunity to meet one of Spain’s most internationally recognised illustrators and an artist capable of creating worlds that invite you to stay a little longer than you originally planned.
