Rogue. Bucky O’Hare. Micronauts. The ’Nam. The history of modern comics would look very different without them. And they all have one thing in common: Michael Golden.

Artist, writer, editor, designer, and one of the most influential visual storytellers in the history of comics, Golden is widely regarded as a true legend of the medium and an inspiration to generations of artists and readers alike.

His name is forever linked to the creation of some of the industry’s most important characters and series. Alongside Chris Claremont, he co-created Rogue, one of the most beloved and iconic members of the X-Men, while also helping create Bucky O’Hare, Micronauts, and the acclaimed Vietnam War series The ’Nam.

As an artist, his work has defined characters such as Batman, Doctor Strange, The Punisher, and G.I. Joe, shaping some of their most memorable eras and establishing a dynamic storytelling style that continues to influence creators around the world.

His impact extends far beyond the pages he has drawn. Throughout his career, Golden served as both Senior Art Director at Marvel Comics and Senior Editor at DC Comics, playing an important role in the creative direction of the two biggest publishers in the industry.

His artwork remains as relevant as ever, with recent covers appearing on titles such as Spawn, The Walking Dead, Deadpool, Daredevil, and a variety of professional wrestling projects.

The influence of his work has been celebrated in several books dedicated to his career and artistic legacy, including Michael Golden: Alchemy, Modern Masters: Michael Golden, Excess: The Art of Michael Golden, and Michael Golden: Dangerous Curves.

Beyond his work as an artist, Golden is also a highly respected teacher and lecturer. His classes and presentations on storytelling and comic art have taken him around the world, with appearances in countries including Spain, France, Norway, Brazil, Chile, Russia, and China.

At San Diego Comic-Con Málaga 2026, fans will have the opportunity to meet one of the most influential figures in comic book history and a creator whose work helped shape the language of modern visual storytelling.
